Description: This museum introduces Nemuro city’s history and nature. Starting from clay figures made 3,000 years ago, archaeological materials excavated from ruins in Nemuro city, taxidermied animals including sea otters, Steller’s sea eagles, white-tailed eagles, and tufted puffins are displayed as the characteristic materials of the Nemuro area. In addition, the documents related to Laksman’s (the Russian first envoy sent to Japan) arrival at Nemuro and the border stone markers of Japan and Russia once put in Karafuto (Sakhalin) in 1905 are displayed in this facility to introduce the relationship between Japan and Russia.   *As of August 2017
